‘Over my dead body’: Mikel Arteta refuses to give up on Arsenal title fight

Mikel Arteta has made his stance clear: Arsenal are still in the title race, and he will not concede defeat “over my dead body.” The Gunners’ boss remains steadfast in his belief despite an 11-point gap behind league leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal’s Uphill Battle

After a frustrating 2-0 loss to West Ham, Arsenal finds themselves in a challenging position heading into their clash against Nottingham Forest. Their title hopes have been dented, but Arteta insists that given their circumstances, which are injuries, suspensions, and adversity... His team’s current position is a testament to their resilience.

“It’s been incredibly satisfying to work every day with the players and the staff to overcome certain situations,” Arteta said. “If somebody told you at the start of the season: ‘By this time, you have played five times with a red card over half an hour in each of those games, and you have lost this amount of players,’ you’d think you’d be mid-table, maybe even out of the Champions League spots.”

Despite these setbacks, Arsenal remains in the mix at the top of the table, and Arteta refuses to let his squad lose focus.

Fighting Until the End

Arsenal has already received five red cards this season, which is two more than any other club. Myles Lewis-Skelly will miss the Forest game due to his recent dismissal, adding to an already growing list of unavailable players. But even with these challenges, Arteta remains undeterred.

“When you are there, you want more and you want more and you want more. And I’m not going to stop, over my dead body,” he declared. “We’ll keep putting everything we possibly can to increase the probability of us winning and being better than the opponent.”

Can Arsenal Still Challenge Liverpool?

Despite the gap, Arteta insists the fight is far from over.

“If not, I’ll go home,” he stated when asked whether he still believed Arsenal could overhaul Liverpool. “Mathematically, it’s possible. You have to play every game. Suddenly, three days ago, we could close the gap, and you think: ‘We’re one and a half games away.’ It doesn’t matter. We have to continue to go.”
